Well it was a wet and wild finish to the 2016 points season. Unfortunately there were many umbrellas but not so many girls! Saturday saw a mixture of wet and dry racing with a drenching shower passing through thankfully during the lunch break.
The weekend’s big winner was Alan Jaime who swept the Stock Moto 125 classes for the weekend. This guy has been on a run this season and has been tough to beat. The Northwest’s own Chuck Gilbert wheeled his 450 superkart through the storm to wins both Saturday and Sunday. In the SKUSA 125 classes Alex Kwan and Fernando Diaz split the races over the weekend including one of the closest finishes of the event. The TaGs opted out of the rain for the most part with Larry Stevens taking a win in his X30 powered TaG in one of Saturdays dry races.
Although there were some mud piles under karts in the paddock, most racers did a tremendous job of staying on track during the challenging conditions they encountered. Good job drivers! As lots of racers chose to head home Sunday morning many of the races were combined allowing the program to be finished extremely early. The vintage racing group on the 3 mile track also called it a day before we did. Wouldn’t you know it, as we left the sun came out for the rest of the day.
NCK would like to thank those racers and their families for making the trip into obvious inclement weather. We would also like to thank Mike Lagrone for the wonderful BBQ hot dogs, burgers and ribs Saturday night. It was a smaller turnout than expected but great bench racing and visiting amongst the group. Thank you Mike!
Race results can be found on our results page. Final 2016 points will be posted in the next day or two.
Please join us for our next race at Sonoma Raceway. It’s our traditional Thanksgiving event Saturday Nov 26. This will be the first race of the 2017 points season.
Stay tuned for more info on this plus our entire 2017 schedule. Aside from Laguna we may have another surprise or two in store for you.
